The dreaded back to school shopping is upon us. The more organised mums amongst us are probably all sorted. But if you are anything like me then you are likely to avoid shopping until the last minute! Which isn’t always the best idea as I found last year when I struggled to find trousers that fit Munchkin.
Brantano were kind enough to help start getting us organised by offering us a chance to review their shoe fitting service and fit Munchkin with a pair of shoes for school.
The staff at Brantano were friendly and were able to advise what shoes were more approriate. Munchkin has fairly narrow feet so we can sometimes struggle to get shoes to fit and often need insoles especially when it comes to boots. The whole shoe fitting process was nice and simple and even fun. The staff at our Brantano store had an interactive Clark’s fitting maching. This can help to put any child that is worried at ease with their interactive tablet. The child can pick a female or male character to represent them and then the staff member also asks the child to input their age.
The tablet is then fitted into the machine and the child has to simply stand on it and the feet will be measured. Measurements are written on dedicated piece of paper so you can remind yourself of the size as you choose your pair of shoes. And you get a ‘I’m a Brantano kid’ sticker!
Brantano has a wide variety of shoes including brands such as Clarks and Hush Puppies. Munchkin was spoilt for choice and tried on numerous pairs of shoes but ended up picking the first pair of shoes she tried on!
Luckily they were a pair that I liked too and approved of!
And this is the pair that Munchkin finally decided on.
Brantano is also calling on children to take a pledge to walk to school for charity.
Brantano is calling for children and their parents in to pledge to walk to school more often in the new term, to help raise money for road safety charity, Brake.
Research by the shoe retailer has revealed that only a third of children and parents regularly walk to and from school every week and further research highlights that only a quarter of parents feel the route between their home and school is safe. Brantano is aiming to encourage the school run to be made on foot rather in the car in a bid to not only help reduce congestion and traffic dangers on the roads around schools but also to help promote a healthy lifestyle and safe walking in correctly fitted shoes.
For every pledge Brantano receives it will donate 10p to Brake to help fund the lifesaving work it does in campaigning to prevent road deaths and injuries, and supporting people bereaved by traffic collisions. To take part simply head to a Brantano store to take advantage of the free expert fitting service and pick up a pledge card. Then share a photo holding your pledge card on Brantano’s Facebook or Twitter pages and Brantano will donate to Brake for every pledge photo shared.
I do understand that it is not always easy to walk to school, especially if you have children in different schools and a short amount of time to get them there on time, but if you are able to walk to school then why not take the pledge and in the process help raise money for charity?
Disclaimer: We were given a free pair of shoes in return for a review of the fitting service and a mention of the campaign. However all opinions are my own.

We usually do the uniform back to school shopping at the start of the holidays and shoes at the end as their feet grow so quickly! The shoes she chose are lovely.

We don’t have a car so it’s a no-brainer for us but it does surprise me sometimes how often people take the car to drive a really short distance that’s totally walkable! x
M<y boys walk to school. I believe in kids being allowed freedom where we can safely give it,
always a dependable brand to buy shoes not just for school
It’s amazing the difference in attitude to footware/care in France and UK. In France you just find the basic plastic foot lying around somewhere in the shop and measure your own kid’s foot, there’s no specialist care! And without school uniforms there’s also no school shoes so most kids live in trainers. I like th walk to school initiative

I have to admit that our brantano has always been a bit hit and miss with availability but i like they have the new Clarks measuring system
I’ve still got shoe shopping to do – I’d not really thought of Brantano for school shoes.

Luckily, our little ones school is about 150 Metres away so we don’t have to walk too far.
We usually go to clarks but this year, we were also lucky enough to get some Kickers shoes for the start of the new year.

We have stopped buying Clarks shoes as they seem to have reduced in quality. We not buy startrite. I know they are more expensive but they do last
we like Brantano, and those tablet fitting machines are fab. so glad I don’t have to do the whole back to school thing though, one of the things I love about Home educating.
Lovely shoes! Mine love the little characters on the iPad – we always go to Clarks.
