It was Eid on Friday after a month of fasting. This year I was determined to make both Ramadan and Eid special for the girls, Munchkin in particular, and make them excited about it. With Munchkin going to school, she ends up getting involved in Christmas and making decorations etc while at school, so I though it was time we made some at home for Eid and show her Eid is fun and time to party.
Yes me getting all crafty……I'm not sure I quite believe it myself.
I took to Pinterest to get inspired and was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful some of the decorations are and how people take the time and effort to decorate their homes.
As I had left things a little bit late, and only really being able to make things while Bee is asleep, we decided to look for some simple and quick decorations to make.
So with some ideas in mind we visited our local Hobbycraft to get some supplies.
You can seriously get carried away in there, such a variety of items.
You can see pictures of our full shopping trip in my Google + album. But here's the items we got.
As we got some paper lanterns, Munchkin used some of her stickers and feathers to decorate them to give them some individuality. We hung them up on the light in the living room and I must say they looked really pretty.
Now one of the things we wanted to do was to make a banner. Rather than buy one or make a really professional looking one, we decided we wanted to make it unique so we cut out some triangles and Munchkin spent some time decorating them before we hung them up.
Munchkin had loved the star ideas so she wanted to buy some glitter stars we spotted in Hobbycraft. We decided to hang them up on the door and they looked fab. If we had lots more the idea would have been to string them from the roof, although I'm not sure what hubby would have thought about holes or blue tack/sellotape on the ceiling.
Luckily Eid was on Friday and not on Thursday for us, so we had some extra time to make more decorations. We found a really easy tutorial on Pinterest for making 3D stars so we thought we would have a go at that.
You can find the full tutorial following the Pin on my Eid Decorations board.
As the card was plain, Munchkin wanted to decorate the stars. Sadly by decorating them, she pretty much squashed them. But they still looked pretty when we stuck them on the cupboard door.
We have another Eid celebration coming up in October! I have gotten inspired by the decorations on Pinterest and so we will be having a go at making some more complicated ones before then! I do believe I'm finally getting into this art and craft thing!
I love your banner! I saw those letters in Hobbycraft too! Awesome.
Those 3D stars are awesome – well done with your crafting!
Love these! What fabulous decorations!
